Prithvi Contractor works hard to keep its employees safe. We also work hard to update our blog with the most timely and relevant information on, among other things, warehouse safety. With that in mind, we figured it was time to put a piece together on — you guessed it! — some warehouse safety ideas that we should all familiarize ourselves with.
A warehouse has so many moving parts and so many moving people. With so much going on at any one time, it’s important to maintain proper safety standards as part of the everyday routine of each and every employee.
Working conditions for warehouse workers can be improved by a few simple steps and by regular safety inspections. This is true for all workers. Doesn’t matter if they’re forklift operators involved in materials handling at the loading dock; if they handle hazardous materials and/or racking systems; or if they work in the relative safety of the comptroller’s office. These warehouse safety tips are universal and should be universally observed.
MISHAPS
But first: What sorts of mishaps are we looking to prevent in the warehouse working environment? Well, we’d like to prevent trips and slip and fall accidents. We’d like workers to internalize fire safety regulations. We want them to know how to operate fire extinguishers and other safety equipment. That’s for starters.
Some warehouse safety ideas are easier to conceive and put into action to prevent accidents than others. Want to prevent slips? Install anti-slip grips on walking surfaces. Want your crew of forklift operators to maintain an accident-free record? Well, that’s a little more involved, but it’s imminently doable.
WAREHOUSE SAFETY IDEAS FOR EVERYONE
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reports that “the fatal injury rate for the warehousing industry is higher than the national average for all industries.”
A warehouse doesn’t have to be one of the most dangerous places to work. The warehouse safety ideas listed below have been culled from our own knowledge base and those of other experts in the industry. It is not a comprehensive list, but it’s a darn good start.
Workforces change all the time. That’s why it’s vital that warehouse operators educate everyone on warehouse safety ideas. They should also provide continual instruction, training, and updates to keep workers up to speed with timely and relevant warehouse safety procedures. We all want to avoid accidents and injuries. Let’s make our workplaces as safe as can be.
